John Fairbairns funeral will be taking place at 2.30pm on Thursday 17th April at Weston-super-Mare Crematorium, Ebdon Road, Worle, W-s-M, Somerset.

Some very sad news I afraid - John Fairburn died this morning Monday 7th April.

As many of you will know, especially from the Yachting section, John had been fighting the big “C” for a while now. He had just recently come down to the Apex Lake, during one of the 1M morning meetings to have a chat with his many friends in our club. He will be sadly missed.

Our sincere condolences to his wife Suzanne and his family.

The funeral arrangements will appear here as soon as I know them.

1M Winter Series round 7 (17th Feb) - it was cold with hardly any wind, but that seemed to even out the field. We had 6 different winners from just 8 races! Report, scores and the overall points table are now on the yachting pages.

Don't forget - the final round of the 2007/08 Winter series (plus the Apex Dash) is on Sunday 2nd March.

This Sunday's (16th Sept) morning meeting for Club yacht racing (any class) has been cancelled. While you are, of course, welcome to sail on the lake, there will be no "club" organised races and the rescue boat may not be available since we cannot guarantee a key holder will be there on that day.

Congratulations to Scott Smart who has won this year’s 1M Wednesday night series and done it in style - winning 32 of the 52 races!

Our former Chairman and club co-founder Ted Lester passed away peacefully last Tuesday night (31st July). Ted was instrumental in forming the Sedgemoor Model Boat Club and gaining consent for the club to use the Apex Lake. He was well liked by everyone who met him and will be sadly missed.

Ted's funeral will be on Tuesday 7th August at 3.30pm at Taunton Crematorium.

1M Summer Series (17th June) round 4 - scores and report have been added. There was good turn out with 14 entries, but before this meeting started all the skippers held a minutes silence as a mark of respect to a former yacht racing member Gerry Gray.

I'm sorry report that Gerry Gray has lost his battle against cancer and passed away on 15th June. Our thoughts go out to his family. Gerry's funeral will be on Wed 27th June at Camford Crem. Westbury-on-Trim at 2pm.

John Fairbairn now leads the series overall by just 6 points ahead of Bob Conners with only one round left in the 2006/07 series. Our move to the new storage hut is on HOLD - without warning the Council have now requested a 50% increase in the cost of our rental fee, plus they now want us to pay for it's insurance!

This morning our Club Secretary Ian Gibson was handed the keys to our new storage hut. We will soon be fitting it out with a few shelves, battery powered lighting etc, then we will move all our equipment over from the old storage hut. For photos - click here

I'm very sorry to inform you that Derrick Woodman passed away on 22nd November. As many of you will know Derrick had been ill for sometime.

I know you will join us in offering his wife Olive and son John our deepest condolences.

Our Club 1M yacht racing Winter Series starts on Sunday 12th November (soon be Christmas!) first race at 10.15am and the last race usually finshing approx. 1pm. The series is on every Sunday fortnight until the end of Feb 2007.

Another great days racing at Apex last Sunday (8th Oct) for the final round of the SWAMBC Fast Electric series 2006. Good results on the day with a triple for Sedgemoor as Ian Gibson wins R2R class, Chris Locke won Formula 3 and Malcolm Franks won Forumla 4. A reminder this Sunday (27th August) its Pete's Fun Event & BBQ

from midday at the Apex park, Burnham-on-Sea. We plan to have many ‘fun competition events’ during the day as well as plenty of free sail time with a BBQ (hotdogs and beef burgers) plus the Sedgemoor Sea-Jet Display Team will be in action. Among the on-the-water activities will be: Yacht racing, for any class (during the morning), Tug Towing – (single or pair of tugs manoeuvring the tanker/barge through a simple course, but the tugs will not be tethered to the tows!), Tug Pulling Power event (find out how much pulling power your tug has) for Scale boats there will be predicted Log and Blind Steering competitions! Fast electric racing R2R class plus anything else we can think of on the day!

The Sedgemoor Sea-Jet Display Team are travelling to Reading this Bank Holiday Monday (1st May) to do it's first display of 2006 at the Beale Park Model Show. The formation part of the display now has a new start and four new routines, which the team had practiced for the very first (and last!) time, only a few nights ago!
