Sanson Tug

By Mark Sutton

This model was a present from my wife last August (2005) as a project to complete whilst convalescing after an operation. It has taken quite a while as the op. was on my wrist and modelling with two healthy hands is normally quite a challenge for me anyway!

The model is the Artesania Latina, Sanson Tug, though I have changed a couple of little bits and renamed it. The Name is in honour of my two grandmas. She measures approximately 12” by 5” and is built using plank on frame method. It took quite a bit of time to make her entirely water tight.

She has not sailed as of yet (10.04.2006) but I hope she will do well in the Sedgemoor Scale Challenge events. The only thing on her that is not from the kit is the rudder as it was far to small so I fitted a stock one that will do the job. The old rudder has been kept so that when on display I can show her in complete scale. In trying to keep her roughly to scale I also kept the original prop that came witht the kit. It did have to be trimmed a little though as the back end has been modified slightly to allow fo rudder control.

Power comes from a 6v 4ah gel cell that helps to also ballast the boat. I also found that I needed to add over 3lbs of extra ballast to bring her to a reasonable waterline, though I think she still rides a little high.

There are just a few things to finish, but she is water tight and the electrics work.
