From ELK to KLK VORPOSTEHBOOT

Having seen a picture of one of these

“boot” I wanted a model one, so obtain

plans and hull from Kingston but as

it was made of fibreglass I did not

get on with it! (We do not mix) I saw

a picture on a German web site of one

made from the Graupner Elk kit PIC 1

Basic work was carried out, planked in bulwarks, cut away stern, cut out deck sluices, raised stem piece etc

Next was to modify wheelhouse, build two band stands, and various hatches and companion ways

Note the winch at rear of wheel house, for elk it is mounted at front of w/house. Next picture shows the band stands.

The front one due to hatch opening of kit is mounted about 1” rearwards. Bandstands are plastic with micro ply insert. Next pictures shows guns in temporary place, the best bit about this “boot” is that as the war went on more heavier armament was added, so one can start with just a pair of mg42, fitting any thing up to the later type of two 4 barrel 20mmguns in bandstands a single 20mm or 37mm (bofors) on stern plus other MG s.

Boot not finished yet as scale of elk is 1/36 using 1/35 kits looks ok, Depth charges to be add plus all normal fittings. Note none of the masts etc will be fitted as not fitted on real boat.
